We celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a new addition this year - the newest member of the Gaghen clan. We had a long day planned, and I wasn't sure how Ella would do, but she did awesome. Our annual tradition began with breakfast and beer at O'Dowds on the Plaza. It's always fun to see everyone dressed up in their Irish gear and to stare in amazement at the huge tables of partiers who are begining their celebration at 8 am - now that is dedication!
Next we headed downtown for the parade. We were looking forward to a nice day, as the forecast was sunny and in the high 50's. No such luck - it was cloudy, cold, and WET from rain all morning. We were so frustrated and had to yell at the weather man as he went by in the parade. Regardless, we had a great time watching the floats, bands, local celebrities, and ginormous parade balloons pass by. Ella was fascinated by all the people and things going on, but was able to take naps when she got tired, despite all the loud noises. What a good baby!Everyone loved my mom's huge Irish ears. Everytime someone made a comment about them, she would say "What???" and we would crack up. Ella loved them, too!
Here's Ella with grandpa and his Irish beard ... a wee bit crooked!
After the parade, we headed to O'Neill's for lunch and ran into some close family friends of ours, the Hasters. What a surprise and a great way to wrap up our day.

For the record, my shirt says "Lucky to be a Jayhawk". Yessiree ... I am. Ella's lucky to have some beads to chew on.
