Our Little Pirate

Bear with me ... I'm a few weeks behind on my blog posts.

On a quest to find the perfect Halloween costume for Ella this year, I came across this one on http://www.amazon.com/ (my favorite place to shop). My parents picked up a cute little wooden parrot when they were in Charleston, and the outfit was complete. Our little pirate, all ready to go trick-or-treating for the very first time.

A few days before Halloween, we went to Night of the Living Farm at Deanna Rose Farmstead, a local petting zoo. This has become our new tradition this time of year.

Ella and her friend Isaac ... the cutest little pirate couple

The Lees ... some good friends of ours who joined us at the zoo

the haunted hayride this year ... didn't phase Ella last year, but this year, her expression looked a little like this:

some other good friends that met us at the zoo ... the Larsons

The next night, we checked off another Halloween tradition ... pumpkin carving. This year, Ella got to help trace and poke out a very creative face that daddy helped her with.

Finally, the big evening arrived. We surprised Ellasyn with a treat bucket filled with fun Halloween books (which, to this day, we read almost every night), a ghost light-up toy, a witch Pez dispenser (coming in handy every time she uses the potty), and a toddler music CD (which maintains my sanity in the car most days). WAY better than candy!

First stop - Nana and Papa's house - which was the scariest one by far. Here's Ella with her Nana Maggie, the "Wicked Witch". Ella wasn't too sure about her at first. The front yard was even creepier. As long as I can remember, my parents have gotten just as excited about Halloween as most people get about Christmas.

We raided the Goodwill store and dressed up to match Ella. Even though it was short lived little costume party, we still had a lot of fun. Eli's "Captain Jack Sparrow" look cracked me up .. what a trooper.

Ella loved trick-or-treating. We pulled her around in her wagon and stopped at the foot of each driveway as she worked her way up to the front door and stood on her tippy toes to ring the doorbells. Her little "twick oh tweat" was the cutest thing ever, and I could have spent all night just watching people's faces as they opened their doors to this sweet little pirate. When her little body was exhausted, and her candy pail was too full to carry by herself, we headed home. What a perfect night.
